Building Forum > Drop Kerbs
its down to council contractors as its their property.
Sorry to disagree with Hi-spec but it’s not the councils reasonability to carry out the works. The council will carry out the work for you but they will charge. I wanted to have 3 kerbs repositioned (dropped) around four or five years ago and I was quoted around 2k by my council back then.
I think you will need to put your hands very deep in your pocket. I think its one of those jobs that the local builders know the price they can charge and so charge it.
I don’t know is this practical or not and I don’t know if the council will allow you, but have you consider doing it your self ?
Surely Village the whole idea of an approved list means that the only people that the Council are happy with to do the work are the ones on the list as they meet certain standards and have been vetted (or more likely palms greased). So I think it would be very unlikely that they would be OK with a DIY job !!
i dont think the approved list is the only option, its just people that the couincil have some familiarity with. i am sure you could do it yourself but it would have to meet all the council standards. dont forget the work is pretty tough... tarmac, big kerbstones etc and then you may come across water stopcocks etc that will need the covers lowered. with todays prices, 2k is perhaos not that heavy?
do it yourself its not complicated council will come out and look at it if its right no problem i did mine

We are helping someone convert an old brick shed into a garage. All planning permissions have come through so we are just about ready to start. We need to put in a drop kerb (permission granted) but have been quoted around £2k by builders on the councils approved list. Is there a cheaper way around this?
