My roof is leaking which is causing, I think, the water to drip down into the loft and then through the floor boards on to the ceiling. I have had someone look at it and they can fix the roof to stop this happening again. I now have to sort out the problem of the brown/ orange patch on the ceiling from the water stain.

The ceiling is cream and I was wondering if I can simply use the same paint as before to cover it or do I need a special paint?

You can use any oil based paint to seal off the water marks . Then when it is dry use the original paint to touch it in. You may find a slight colour difference to whats on the ceiling already tho , the only way to get over this is to coat up the whole ceiling

I guessed this may be the case with the full ceiling coat.
